Factory head gaskets are 3 layers and around 0.048" thick give or take. Methodical copper gaskets are 0.021" which slightly bumps compression but more importantly brings the squish distance closer to something usable. On the stock head gasket, Honda kept the squish large to keep heat down after the melt down fiasco. The net result of this copper head gasket is a higher level of performance.
